CO-OPERATIVE DEPARTMENT


The Co-operative department in the district is headed by Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies (ARCS). The main objectives of the department is to uplift the economic living standard of the people in general and weaker section/people in particular.

The main activities are : (i) To organise new Co-operative Societies. (ii)Supervision. (iii)Audit and inspection. (iv) Liquidation of non functional socities. (v)Imparting co-operative education and train the co-operators.

The department also conduct training programmes for the people and Co-operative societies has been audited and inspected and reports send to the government. So far, 63 co-operative have been assisted by NCDC under centrally sponsored schemes and 29 numbers of co-operative societies assisted by NSCB Ltd. as loan. The Co-operative department is making all out efforts for strengthening Co-operative movement to benefit the people and for economic development of the district.

At present (source-District plan 2002-03), there are 314 numbers of registered primary level co-operative societies, 2(Two) numbers of MARCOFED branches at Phek and Pfutsero town, 3(three) numbers of NSCB Ltd. branches at Pfutsero, Chozuba and Phek town and 2(two) numbers of MINILAMP co-operative societies. There are 16 numbers of socities under liquidation and 86 numbers of socities under dormant.
